Hale, Jasper « Thread Started on Apr 5, 2008, 9:04pm »
Character's Name (Nicknames): Jasper Whitlock Hale ['Jazz']
Gender: Male
Age: looks 20, is actually 165.
Species: Vampire
Sexual Orientation: Straight
Family: Married to Alice, and an adopted member of the Cullen family.
Character History: [Referenced from Twilight Lexicon]
Jasper served as a Major in the Confederate army during the Civil War. The vampire family that changed him in 1863 was very different from the Cullens in their dietary habits –they fed off humans. Jasper became depressed over his way of life and sought something better. His search led him to Alice in 1948, which in turn led him to Carlisle in 1950.
Jasper has the most difficult time with the lifestyle set by the Cullen family. He avoids contact with humans, as he is more tempted than the others to drink from them. Going to school is a difficult task, but he does it for Alice.
He would do anything for Alice, as she is his whole life. Even though he treats the other members of his family with respect, he isn’t bound to them the way he is to Alice.
Jasper uses the last name of Hale because he and Rosalie look so much alike and people assume them to be twins. The vampires tend to go with whatever the humans are willing to believe. Rosalie insists on using Hale as a last name, and therefore, Jasper took it as his, too.
Character Appearance: Jasper is 6'3". He has the typical golden/black eyes of a vampire, all depending on how recently he's fed. His hair is honey blonde in coloring. His build is muscular but lean, and there is a glimmer in his eyes that speaks of hidden sadness and knowledge and lessons best not learned--but learned well, none-the-less. His typical clothing comprises of sweaters, Levis or slacks and a jacket. Under the sweaters he's known for wearing simple loose button up shirts, mostly white in color. He prefers winter colors, though he is not picky and will wear most anything, as long as it looks good on him.
Strengths/Weaknesses: Jasper is a lover of knowledge and music and his pursuit of it is obvious. He is very talented at pretty much anything he chooses to do, though he does struggle in areas other than learning and knowledge. Being the most recent 'convert' to the Cullen way of life, the simple sight or smell of blood can be enough to send him over the edge and into bloodlust. A wise enemy might consider using this against him. His very strength of knowledge can also be a weakness as he tends to over-analyze everything, much to the annoyance of everyone about him. He has a deep attachment to Alice and would be willing to do most anything for her. Being uncomfortable around pretty much anyone other than the Cullen's is another weakness of his, one that could be exploited if someone were to become aware of it. Coupled with the trouble with blood, he is not the best vampire to have out and about among humans unless with the other Cullens.
Personality: Fairly quiet and withdrawn, he prefers to keep to himself. Though this never applies to Alice. Should she but ask it, he will put everything aside for her. He does not do well around humans, though the other Cullens do support him. He loves to learn and music of most any sort, though Jazz will always be one of his personal favorites. Though an excellent fighter, he much prefers to stick to the sidelines and will only offer advice if it is asked--except in DIRE circumstances. Though he does have a sense of humor and a love of things, he struggles daily with the guilt from his past--though he's probably loathe to admit that to anyone.
RP sample:[This is in 3rd person, past tense, though I can do first person, and past or present]
Jasper sighed heavily as he carefully retreated to his room. It had been difficult for him since Bella had started to come to visit all the time. He still remembered losing control and almost killing her on her birthday, and even after all the time that had passed, he still felt a sense of shame. Which was one of the reasons he'd retreated. He did not wish to have a repeat of the disaster.
He was not like the others. Though he did want to refrain from killing humans--from even tasting their blood--he had a harder time of it than they did. Perhaps it was because he was still so new to it. Whatever the reason, it was a daily struggle for him. Though he'd never admit it, he sometimes [in his darkest inner thoughts] hoped that the change that Alice and Edward had promised would occur in Bella would happen sooner rather than later. At least then he'd not struggle when he was around her. He truly did enjoy her company. It was just... she was so distracting, what with her blood racing just below the skin....
He cut off that line of thought before it could get any further.
If he was lucky, Alice would choose to spend the night with him instead of going to hang out with Bella and Edward. He didn't think he'd be capable of joining the little group for any sort of activity that night, and yet, he didn't want to be alone. But he would, as always, let her do just as she wished. It didn't stop him from hoping she'd choose him tonight, over them.
Perhaps he'd ask her for a little alone time.... if he could have even just a few hours with her, he wouldn't mind so much if [when] she went to see the other two...
For now... he turned his attention to the CD player in front of him and popped in a CD and closed his eyes, letting the soft soothing sounds of the jazz music wash over him.
Picture: [I have two actors who I cannot decide between. One of them is the actor I've been using for quite some time--Trent Ford. The other is the fellow they just cast as Jasper in the movie--Jackson Rathbone.
